Which glass do you supply? Can you supply tinted glass?

We predominantly supply 10mm Clear Toughened Glass. We can offer tinted & also Laminated glass as well.

Why do you leave a gap between the glasses? And how big is the gap?

We leave a 30mm gap between glass panels for three reasons: 1)No smaller than 30 so fingers/rings do not get trapped 2) Not abutted for expansion and 3) for ease of installation and alingment

What are the glass size sections? How many glasses is each run made from?

For ease of installation and transport we divide the glasses so the largest pane does not exceed 1.2m length.

I can see that the bottom rail is continuous, do you have a solution to allow water drainage?

Yes, we can supply, as part of the system, 5mm packers that will sit beneath each fixing point and so allow a 5mm gap that allows water to pass freely underneath the bottom rail.

Do you Manufacture the Balcony Structure?

We manufacture the balustrade only, not the balcony structure. Our system will suit almost any balcony structure.

What colours can the balustrades or Juliettes be supplied in?

We have four standard colours; White, Silver, Bronze and our unique "Royal Chrome" finish.

We can supply other colours but only on projects that have enough quantity to allow this.

How are the corner joined? are they welded?

The corners of the balustrades are mechanically joined with a special internal aluminium plate. They are not welded.

Is anodizing better or worse than stainless steel?

Stainless steel despite its name will tend to tarnish and will usually not live up to the expectations. Anodized aluminium, especially our "Royal Chrome", is far superior in corrosion resistance and longevity and will not require the amount of regular maintenance that stainless steel will.

Are the balustrades suitable for stairs?

Our systems are designed to suit balconies and terraces, they are not designed for stair railings.

Have your Balustrade Systems been tested?

Yes, our balustrade systems have been thoroughly tried and tested, on site and off site. In June 2004 we commissioned Sandberg LLP, independent testing & consulting engineers, to test our systems with regards to compliance to BS6180:1999 & BS6399:1996. These test results are posted on our website in the form of PDF documents. You can view these through the home page or download them at the download.

Is the Balcony balustrade Systems a Structural Glass System?

No, it is not a structural glass balustrade. It is a composite system utilizing both the glass and the Handrail to take the loads. Utilizing the handrail allows the balustrade to span certain lengths without the need for vertical posts. Once these are exceeded we must introduce vertical posts.

By PRH Construction"Being glass and aluminium, the Balcony system is well-suited for its purpose, particularly for properties in coastal climates, and we're very pleased with it. Indeed, we're planning to use it on our next development nearby.

"Plus, we get an excellent service from Senator Windows, which is Balcony's distributor in Northern Ireland."

By Orianna Investments Ltd"We have used the Balcony system several times. As the materials are no-maintenance glass and aluminium, it is the ideal solution for balconies on properties by the sea where corrosion is a real problem with steel ones.

By Mr. C. C."I installed the two balconies myself in a total of 42 hours.

The complexity of the angles in the larger balcony measuring 2m by 3m and 4m presented more of a challenge. However, design assistance from Balcony's technical team helped to ensure the whole job went smoothly."

By Deco Design & Build, Kings Bench Street, SE1 "Balcony did a good job and I would happily use the company again.

It's a cost-effective product and the ability to match
the handrail colour was a factor in our choice
to achieve a co-ordinated exterior appearance.

We specified an RAL colour on the balcony elliptical handrail to match the 'gunmetal grey' shade of the property's windows.

"Workmanship overall was very good and on delivery and timescales, they did what they said, when they said they would.

I would certainly recommend the company and would consider Balcony for any future balustrading projects."

By Mr & Mrs D"Balcony has been an excellent company to work with. Initially the balcony was damaged beyond repair in transit by the courier. We emailed Balcony photographs of the damage and they replaced it without question, we could not fault their customer service.

"We fitted the balcony ourselves and are more than pleased with it. We now enjoy a beautiful view from the upstairs room."

By Mr. & Mrs. A "It was just what we wanted and suits our 1980s house. With a bronze handrail, the balcony looks lovely and, of course, being glass there's no maintenance and no need to paint railings.

"An added benefit is protection from the wind, so we can enjoy countryside views from the south-facing balcony all year round - even in winter. A system we'd recommend."

By Mr. D. "Very good, very pleased and it's exactly what I wanted. The glass keeps views over the rock garden and distant hills. Installation by my builder was easy and straightforward.

"A number of people have asked me about the balcony and everyone I've shown it to has been very impressed, so I'd certainly recommend it."
rating starrating starrating starrating starrating star, 12 Dec 2007
By Mr. & Mrs. B."The glass balcony provides the necessary secure balustrading for the decking over the sloping site, while preserving the views. It also provides shelter from the wind and looks beautiful. We're very pleased and would certainly recommend the system.

"Balcony were most helpful, and treated us as individuals, unlike other companies who were more used to dealing with builders or contractors."
rating starrating starrating starrating starrating star, 12 Dec 2007
By Mr. A. C."The elegant style of the balconies suits the seaside location very well, having clear views through the glass panels and minimal post structures.

"Our own installation following your instructions went very smoothly as the system is well thought out. Your assistance with drawings and checking the details of integrating to the main structure steel columns, ensured that everything fitted."

A brief introduction to the systems:

We have two unique systems:

“Balcony 1 System” which has a 70mm diameter handrail and 55mm diameter posts. When used for public areas we utilize 65mm diameter posts.

And

“Balcony 2 system” which has a special aerofoil shaped handrail with dimensions 116mm wide and 51mm height, the vertical balustrade posts for the balcony 2 system are rectangular in shape and sit behind the glass. The size of the balusters is 40mm wide and 66 mm deep.

Stainless steel handrails are very limited in shape, where our systems, in particular the balcony 2 system when finished in royal chrome will allow a wide and interesting shape in a stainless look.

The handrails are specially designed to be load bearing. In certain sizes and if fixed properly can allow wide spans without posts.

However if these spans are exceeded the systems will require posts.

Typically posts can be spaced at approximately 1.9m - 2.0m centres.

These posts are made from two parts; a primary or “base” structural post which can be supplied early and should be fitted firmly to the building or structure below the finished floor level. This primary post will be covered by the “system” post on final installation. This unique “telescopic” system relieves the need to know the exact final height of the handrail at the early stage. This allows tremendous flexibility in design and implementation.

We supply the system in 4 standard colours;

White
Silver
Bronze
Royal Chrome – which will give the look of stainless steel handrails with a durable and untarnishing surface finish.

Samples available upon request

The systems employ 10mm toughened glass, this can be supplied in Clear or tinted options:

Green tinted, grey tinted, bronze tinted or blue tinted.

Also available is an opaque or “satinized” option for privacy.

Laminated glasses can be supplied if required.

We operate an online pricing system where you can obtain a price for your balustrade without the need for entering your private details.
