Product: Glass balustrade
This hybrid aerofoil system, was chosen to replace a rotting wood and glass balustrade. The deciding factors were the lower weight and lower cost, of the other options I could find.
As a DIY installation, it went smoothly, but we had the following minor issues:
1) Where the balcony fixed to the walls, the profile of the wall was not a perfectly straight upright. The hand rail and the bottom rail were trimmed using a fine toothed bandsaw, and blankets to prevent any scratching. (note: this was only a problem because the balustrade could not be moved / nudged from its planned installation position)
2) One of the post covers would not slide fully to the bottom of the steel post, due to what appeared to be the bead of the weld of the steel post, holding it up. The bottom end of the post cover was adjusted.
3) The top of the post cover did not sit in the recessed section on the underside of the hand rail, as the square cut end was several millimetres wider than the recess under the hand rail. I feel the top of the post should have been profiled to fit within the handrail slot. This would have allowed the hand rail to push down further, and the screw holes for the handrail retaining clip to align with the 'post cover' holes. We modified the holes in the post cover.
None of the issues caused us a problem, and I would like to thank everyone involved at Balconette for making this a smooth experience.
