Balconette’s frameless balustrades make a stylish statement for barn conversion

A retired farmer in Leicestershire has realised a long-held dream of converting the barn where she once raised livestock into her stunning new home – complete with two stylish frameless glass balustrades supplied by Balconette.
Completed in November 2022, ‘The Shed’ near Melton Mowbray uses Balconette’s SG12 Fully Frameless System to create a seamless barrier on a first-floor internal mezzanine floor and an external balcony from which to enjoy 360-degree rolling countryside views.
The conversion project was undertaken for Janice Ferguson by Stamford-based Best Little Building Company, which specialises in bespoke building projects. Director Lydia Powell says her client, together with her late husband, had always spoken about converting the barn one day.
Lydia explains: “Janice wanted to stay in the area, so the conversion became her ‘lockdown project’ and The Shed was therefore born.”
When it came to the design of the balustrades, the Best Little Building Company had used Balconette in the past, so they knew the company and the quality of its products. “That’s why we chose them as our client wanted a glass frameless solution to the upstairs mezzanine. We also used Balconette’s system on the external balcony,” continues Lydia.
“Because the house is flooded with natural light at beautiful angles, the frameless system really enhances the simplicity of the design and feeling of spaciousness. Janice is delighted with the result.”
Lydia found the ordering and design process for the glass balustrades was “very easy” and she was especially impressed by Balconette’s swift remedial action on an issue with the measurements.
“We had made a mistake on measuring the internal and external corners of the balustrades. Balconette’s team advised us on what to do and they rectified the issue brilliantly and very quickly. Their consultant Alyousef Magracia was also very helpful.”
She adds: “The glass balustrades look really lovely, and we will use Balconette again on future projects.”
