Completely redesigning the front of their detached home has given a Swindon family-of-four more space – and light, thanks to this beautiful glass balustrade and adjacent Juliet glass balconies supplied by Balconette.

The extension created an extra bedroom and replaced two small dormer windows with French Doors, protected by the Juliet glass balconies. Crucially, it also allowed them to have an external balcony on which they can relax and take in the view.

“It’s lovely, we’re so pleased with the result and are really happy,” says mother-of-two Aneta Kew, whose Google search led her to Balconette. “I looked at several companies and, as well as liking Balconette’s photos of installations, I felt that the company was the best one for product choice.

“It was easy to contact Balconette and I appreciated the guidance throughout the ordering process as we didn’t want to make a mistake. Their helpful team explained everything.”

The couple chose Balconette’s round Orbit balustrade with a handrail in the Matt Silver Anodised finish for ‘practical reasons’, as Aneta explains: “Having children aged four and seven would mean I’d always be polishing off fingerprints, which is why I didn’t want a shiny finish.”

Her initial safety concerns over whether the balustrading would be high enough were quickly dispelled. “I was a little worried at first in case the children could possibly climb over it. But I am tall and at 175cm (5’ 10”), the handrail comes up to my chest, so it’s much too high for them. Having that reassurance of the safe height is really good; an important safety aspect.”

Since they were installed, the balustrades have attracted compliments, as well as attention from passing motorists. “People passing in cars can see us when we’re sitting on the balcony, and they do notice it.”

What Aneta likes best about the balustrades is extra light flooding into the rooms and being able to sit out on the balcony, enjoying fresh air. “The light is just amazing; the dormer windows were high up, so not much light came in. I love sitting on the south-facing balcony with a coffee in the morning; the sun, fresh air and view is so nice. I love it, it’s brilliant.”

She concludes: “The balcony just makes the house stand out. Is it good value? Yes 100%, I think the change it’s made is worth every penny. I would definitely do it again!”
