The patio renovation project required the removal of an old wooden balustrade from an existing timber decking area. The balustrade was starting to deteriorate and there was some rot setting into the posts.
The owner was keen to smarten up the open plan patio, which also features a bar and outdoor kitchen, and called in CF Roofing Ltd, a Registered Partner Installer to do the work.

Having removed the wooden balustrade, CF Roofing Director, Barry Hughes, points out that correct preparation of the timber decking is crucial prior to installing the glass balustrade. He explains: “Timber decks require jet-washing every Spring to remove build-up of deposits after the winter. However, after about 12 years this had caused the decking to form splinters, although the structure was still sound.
“For anyone walking barefoot on the patio, and with young children running around, the homeowner was concerned about the potential risk of getting splinters in their feet, which wasn’t good.”

Barry’s solution was to use interlocking rubber tiles on timber decking, which provides comfort underfoot while protecting feet, and the decking from further weathering. He comments: “Because I’ve been laying these rubber tiles on roofing projects over the years, I thought this would be the ideal answer that works really well with the Balconette balustrade. And the result is that it’s just really enhanced the area, in my opinion.”
Installation of the Balconette Sg12 Fully frameless glass balustrade was straightforward and only took a few days. The entire project was completed in around two weeks during July 2023.

CF Roofing Ltd also offers balcony installations. Due to their positive experiences with Balconette and the increasing number of installations they completed, they were invited to attend a training course to become a Registered Partner Installer for Balconette two years ago.
Barry concludes: “The frameless glass balustrading makes an elegant statement, while protecting the drop from the raised patio, and looks stunning from different angles. It sets off the patio really nicely and just opens up the whole garden for entertaining, weather permitting. It’s lovely; the client is well pleased with it!”
