Taking advantage of stunning uninterrupted views, this bespoke postless Balconette glass balustrade was tailor-made for this newbuild home near Hooe in Sussex.

The detached property in a tranquil rural setting was built by local developer Highbeech Properties Ltd and Barry Pigram, one of the directors, knew exactly who to contact when it came to selecting a balustrade for the rooftop terrace.

“I had used Balconette about ten years ago on an earlier project, so I knew the company and their products. To my surprise, when I enquired, they still had all my records on their database, which I thought was impressive,” says Barry.

Keen to use glass to preserve the gorgeous views, Barry was also reassured by Balconette’s ability to help him with the design of the balustrade. “It was an unusual project, which was why I needed assistance with getting the design right. The Balconette team did a great job, and the balcony looks lovely.”

He chose the Balconette Aerofoil System as it can create a glass balustrade up to four metres in length, on any single balustrade run, without the need for supporting posts. The wing-shaped handrail has a Royal Chrome Anodised finish and is fixed to the wall at both ends.

“The biggest selling point about the house is probably its location looking out to sea. So, we had to do something quite special for the roof terrace. Although the balustrade cost a bit more than what I wanted to spend, it does look good, and you get what you pay for, I guess. I didn’t want any vertical posts, and Balconette’s system ticked all the boxes,” continues Barry.

The balustrade was fitted by one of Balconette’s installation partners. “They were recommended by Balconette and said it was straightforward to fit. They did a really nice job, and it was peace of mind for me that it would fit correctly.”

Completed in June 2022, the property now has a new owner who “is really pleased with the balustrade”, according to Barry. He adds: “I think the balcony did help to sell the house, although the client bought the house before we’d put the balcony on.

“I had explained to him what I was planning to do, so he had a rough idea of what it would look like. I think they got quite a pleasant surprise - and thought it looked amazing.”
