Protecting the drop from a garden patio, this stylish balustrade using Balconette’s Aerofoil System with a Silver Anodised handrail has added the ‘Wow factor’ to a property in Sutton, Greater London.
Homeowner John Foster chose the Balconette system after his builder Pat Gaughan had recommended the company. “Pat had completed a house extension for us, then we asked him to put the patio in. So, it was a recommendation from him that led us to Balconette as he had used their system before,” says John.
“We went straight to Balconette and I’m glad it worked out. We’re very pleased with the balustrade; it really looks quite classy so a bit of a Wow factor for the house.”
The creation of a new patio meant a drop of about 1.5 metres to the garden below, requiring steps to access the lawn. “We weren’t sure if the Balconette system could do step sections so it was great to find out that this was possible,” continues John.
“The stair sections took a bit of manoeuvring as although the glass was cut to shape the actual steps themselves are not totally horizontal. But the system was flexible enough to allow it to work. It just took us a bit of time to figure it out.”
Keen to get the measurements and tolerances for the stair glass accurate, John liaised with Balconette’s design team to ensure everything would fit correctly. Which it did. “They were very good and advised me on what we needed. We also needed some replacement connecting pieces, which arrived very quickly.”
John and Pat installed the balustrade over two weekends towards the end of summer 2022 and everything was ‘fairly straightforward’. “Everyone who’s seen the balustrade loves it,” adds John. “The wider handrail is great to lean on. Now we’re hoping for a good summer to enjoy the patio – and the balustrade!”
